Feike Gerbrandy completed his training as an ophthalmologist in 2007 at the AMC hospital, which is associated with the University of Amsterdam. His specializations are: dry eyes (sicca), macula degeneration, glaucoma, cataract surgery and laser treatment of floaters.

Laser treatment of vitreous floaters

In 2009, Feike Gerbrandy was one of the first to start treatment of vitreous floaters by use of a laser (floater laser). In 2012, he participated in a fellowship with Dr. Scott Geller, one of the founders of floater laser technology. In 2011, Gerbrandy founded his own Floater Laser eye clinic, OMC Amstelland. This turned out to be so successful that patients came to see him from all over the country and globe. Having performed thousands of treatments and around 2 million floater-directed laser shots, Dr. Gerbrandy is amongst the most experienced floater laser specialists worldwide. Treatment results are included in scientific studies and numerous series were published at large scientific conferences such as ESCRS (Istanbul 2011, Amsterdam 2013), American Academy (2012 en 2013) and Nederlands Oogheelkundig Congres (Dutch Ophthalmologic Congress) (2011 through 2018).

ISVLS (International Society of Vitreous Laser Surgery)

In 2012, Feike Gerbrandy, Scott Geller en James Johnson founded the ISVLS in order to work closely together and do research. This has resulted in a number of presentations at international congresses. The ISVLS board currently consists of Geller, Gerbrandy and Carlo Orione (Italy).

FLOATERS/MOUCHES VOLANTES

People with floaters (mouches volantes) see one or more spots floating in their vision. Depending on where they are located, a floater can hinder daily life. You can get used to some floaters, while others can be highly intrusive.

THE TREATMENT

You can go to the OMC Amstelland ophthalmic clinic for cataract surgery or treatment of eye floaters. All treatments take place in the form of a day treatment and take place in our eye clinic in Diemen.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The Healthcare Institution Netherlands (Zorginstituut Nederland) has decided that floater laser treatment can not be offered as insured healthcare. We can only offer the treatment as uninsured care.
